Hi Readers,
So now that you learned what bunga rampai are and it's many container ideas, how about making your own one?
My family and me prefer the DIY root of making a bunga rampai container. And we chose to make from handkerchiefs. You can any kind of handkerchiefs but preferably those that are square. We chose the vintage white ones with lace and flower embroidery on one corner. You can get these from Shopee and Lazada. These comes in a set of 6 and were not expensive but they come in random designs.
Now that you have your handkerchiefs, let's start folder to make a Bunga Rampai container. Other things you will need are a tiny plastic cup, to store the bunga rampai itself, small safety pins and ribbons for added decorations.
1) We begin with unfolding and spreading on a handkerchief.
2) Folder the handkerchief into quarter, as the picture below, making sure the design side is facing out.
3) Once done, turn the folded handkerchief to diamond shape and fold upwards, leaving about a 1-2 finger gap at the top.
4) Then fold the right and left side, making sure the embroidery appears in the middle when turned over.
5) The picture below is how the embroidery should look like when turned over. Fold the top down to showcase the lace.
6) Pin the folded sides using a safety pin. It should secure both sides from opening.
7) Place the tiny plastic cup inside and check the sizing. It should sit comfortably and not be loose. If it is, readjust the folding and pin it again.
8) This part is optional but makes the bunga rampai container looks nice. You can create and buy a ribbon with a safety pin sewed in. Below was made DIY.
9) Pin in the ribbon, to hide the safety pin and make the bunga rampai container look pretty.
10) With that, the handkerchief bunga rampai container is done. Below is how the finished product looks like. Now start again from step and create 19 or 29 more of these.
Typically, about 20-30 containers are made or used. When sold, it is usually around this number as well.
Once all are made, all you have to do is fill in the bunga rampai itself and place them in a basket to be carried on the wedding day.
It is not difficult to make but it does takes some time as you have to make 20-30 of them. Alternatively, you can get the already made ones from Kedai Kahwin Kahwin in Joo Chiat Complex or other wedding related shops.
Do you know where else have bunga rampai or have other ideas on how to make them? Leave a comment below.
