Malay Wedding Venue: Hotel, Restaurant, Event Hall or Void Deck? Pro & Cons

Hi Readers,

Looking for a wedding venue but have no idea on how to pick? Should you pick a hotel or void deck wedding? Every location type has its own pros and cons which depends on budget.

Let's break it down the Pro and Cons for each type of location.

Hotel

Pros:

    - All inclusive: Usually the hotel packages includes the location, cook, helpers & dishwashers, decorations and entertainment (microphone, speakers, projector)

    - Have hotel room free usually

    - Air-conditioned

    - May have discounted pricing on Bridal & invitation cards

Cons:

    - The most expensive of the other locations.

    - Limited time period (e.g. 5 hour)

Restaurant

Pros:

    - All inclusive: Usually the restaurant packages includes the location, cook, helpers & dishwashers, decorations and entertainment (microphone, speakers, projector)

    - Air-conditioned

    - May have discounted pricing on Bridal & invitation cards

Cons:

    - Less expensive compared to hotel

    - Limited time period (e.g. 5 hour)

    - Depends on the restaurant, there is limited space

Event hall

This event hall refers to those in Community club or other open spaces.

Pros:

    - Much cheaper than the first 2.

    - Depends on packages, may have inclusive.

    - Large space

    - No time limit

Cons:

    - Depends on where, the hall may not be air-conditioned

    - If have packages, the add-on costs may get expensive

    - Some event halls has standardised decorations that can't be changed/personalised

Void Deck

Pros:

    - Most cheapest out of the 4

    - No time limit

    - More personalisation

Cons:

    - Depends on the space of the void deck, may be limited (due to pillars)

    - Not air-conditioned

    - Additional costs incurred as separately for cook, helpers & dishwashers and tent-age (if needed)

Overall, I feel that picking a restaurant or hotel is much more worth it. Or an event hall that have inclusive packages. It may be more expensive but because it is inclusive many things, you will be spending less on other things. Example, if you pick Void deck, it is cheap but you may have to fork out money for the cook, helpers, etc.

This post is written during Covid period so there is a limited amount of guests granted by the government. Also, as there is a requirement to check the guests for vaccination status and check in, a restaurant or hotel is a more suitable option as it is easier to control and the service is provided by the hotel or restaurant.
